"European Researchers’ Night" at the UAM "European Researchers’ Night" at the UAM ========================================== CIVIS Highlights 30 septembre 2024 It was a busy Friday for the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid, which joined once again "European Researchers’ Night". The 14th edition of the event was held in The Plaza Mayor of the Cantoblanco Campus, with a large participation of both children and adults. The university was filled with workshops, experiments and many activities for all audiences, thanks to different research groups of the UAM. ![](/storage/files/highlight-sept-2024-definitive.jpeg) Photo: UAM Under the slogan *‘Science for Caring’*, the 2024 edition aimed for the activities to be related to the European Green Deal and the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. In addition, as in previous years, the aim was for the public to get closer and experience, through gymkhanas, scientific games and workshops, how the world of research works at the UAM. During the event, participants were able to visit some of the many stands offering different workshops and experiments related to multiple fields of knowledge: - *Donate blood, get science* was an activity offered by the Faculty of Medicine, showing the importance of blood cells and blood donation; - *The brain has a trick, your senses trick you!* was the proposal of the Faculty of Biology to explain to the participants how the nervous system modifies the information perceived through the sensory organs; - IFIMAC (Condensed Matter Physics Center) presented a *‘Cryolaboratory’* to teach the magic of extreme cold through low-temperature physics using liquid nitrogen; - The Faculty of History presented ‘*Taking care of political health’*, - and the Faculty of Law prepared an escape room called *‘Save ... Solving the riddle’*, where participants had to pass different tests and, at the same time, learn about law and Sustainable Development Goals. Activities dedicated to children -------------------------------- The European Researchers’ Night offered many activities also aimed at children, such as the Ancient History workshop *They were there too! Let's bring the women of antiquity to light!* or *What do a mushroom, and a seahorse have in common? -* a game to raise awareness of the problems of the Mar Menor as an example of ecological disaster. Other activities that took place thanks to the Faculty of Science during the event were *‘Microworld’ -* to learn about beneficial microorganisms, infections and antibiotic resistance; ‘*Light to diagnose, light to cure’*; *‘Charcolegas’*; *‘Transformation of plastic waste and excess CO2 into technological products’*, and the workshop *‘Edible experiments’*.
